Plesk is a web based control pannel for a hosting solution with lots of possibilities, but as everything even remotely feasible it is riddled with problems or as i like to say has been coded with frosen fingers and the hand has been put in cement. Personally i tend not to use it but i am kinda forced to install it on numerous machines in an automated fashion. My connection with Plesk dates from some time. For being entirely correct since the release of Plesk 7.5 for Windows, which entirely changed the architecture and the inner workings of the installer. Before that it was prety easy. You receive one 200M file (exe or sh) supply the correct options and you are good to go. Sometimes it needed a bit more work, like forcing a correct password, but nothing tedious (day or two tops). Two weeks ago the new Plesk 8.1.0 has been released … cool, nice, slick, with own autoinstaller (which is not working). After some writing and arguing with swsoft developers the installer started working (only for Fedora). Well the problem is i need it for debian and ubuntu. New series of chats and arguing and voilla new installers. Looks like they are working. Try again … yep … they are not working correctly with local mirrors. And mirroring is the logical step to do if you have to install few thousands of machines. New series of mails, arguing and so on. So today i got hold of the new installers, mirroring structure is changed and this installers has fixed everything. Now on to the testing. As a whole picture it kinda works … but have some minor problems, more info as it becames available.
